An unprecedented increase in the popularity of reproductive medicine in China

During the first 4 months of 2016, compared to the same period in 2015 has dramatically increased the number of Chinese women who undergo the procedure of in vitro fertilization. The reason lies in the change of the demographic policy of the authorities.

Since January of this year, the number of women seeking treatment in clinics of reproductive medicine of China has increased by at least 20%.

In addition, local doctors say another feature of the “boom” of popularity of IVF and other procedures, allowing women to experience the joy of motherhood: a noticeable increase in the average age of the patients.

If earlier the figure was 35 years, now most patients are women aged over 40 – there are many who’s going to be 50 years.

The reason for the unusual phenomenon is quite simple – is the abolition of the principle of “one family – one child”, which has been in China for over 30 years.

At the end of last 2015, at the Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist party of China, it was decided that in 2016 Chinese family is allowed to have 2 children.

Prior to that, according to the law, in effect since 1979, to have a second child was allowed only to families living in rural areas, and that provided that the first child was a girl.

Now, hundreds of thousands of very elderly women for many years dreamed about a second child, got right to it – but they have to hurry because of the age. “Physiological pressure” and forces them to come to clinics for reproductive medicine.

Experts estimate that 36 years of operation of the law of “one family – one child” because artificial birth control was prevented the increase in the population of China is 400 million people.
